With this release, I am delving into my past, something that comes very naturally to me as, amongst other things: a student of history, a 70s-phile, as well as a lover and loser. So many snippets of music and verse have lain unused and forgotten but upon resurrection found to be rich in an imagery and musical style very much of its time, rather, my time - that which I was then living through and feeling.

The collection of songs was partially inspired by Stephen Stills’ collection ‘Just Roll Tape’. Just him, an acoustic guitar and a tape recorder. A real fab collection, some tunes would later be Crosby, Stills and Nash [and Young] or Manassas numbers. I highly recommend. I have tried to capture a similarly live and spontaneous feel here too. The pieces that make up this release - and they turned into full songs only upon revisiting - were mostly (as I can remember) written in or around the year 2015 when I was living in a flat in Greenwich, overlooking the Ravensbourne and attending Goldsmiths College. They speak of love, loss, and dry periods of creativity. Only the second piece, ‘Freda’, was written sometime in early-2018, but in utilising contemporary feelings as well as older love letters, I think it is appropriate to collect it here.

Going back to these pieces 5 years on and writing further material to bring them out of the realm of 30-second demos has been steeped in an at once pleasant and painful catharsis, but are those two really seldom far from each other?

Nothing grand, but it must be done. That is me. Warts and all.
